Apartment Building No. 35 is situated in a prominent location in the central part of the town of Týn nad Vltavou, on Míru Square. The building was constructed in 1937 according to the design of Ing. Dr. Jan Reichl as a Functionalist structure intended for the use of the Czech Savings Bank (Česká spořitelna). To this day, the building has retained its original architectural character and represents a valuable example of interwar Functionalist architecture.
The proposed project consists of the conversion of the attic space into residential apartments. Daylighting of the newly created dwelling units is provided by a series of studio-type roof windows arranged in a 3 × 2 configuration. This composition has been designed with respect to the architectural character of the building and reflects the rhythm of the façade openings, which are similarly organized into three vertical axes.
The proposal also includes an additional fixed, non-opening window element positioned at the attic parapet level. Its purpose is to enhance natural lighting within the attic interiors while providing residents with at least a partial visual connection to the surrounding urban environment. This solution responds to the fact that, due to the structural configuration of the roof, the roof windows are located relatively high above the floor level and would not, on their own, provide sufficient outward views from the living spaces.
